Bungie and DICE reportedly in talks to make Star Wars Battlefront 3

Star Wars Battlefront 3 could finally be on the horizon, with a new rumor suggesting that Lucasfilm is considering both DICE and Bungie to develop the long-awaited sequel.

It's been almost a decade since the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 in 2017, and despite years of demand from fans, a third installment has never been officially announced. The previous two games were developed by EA DICE, bringing the large-scale fights from the Battlefield series to the Star Wars universe.

However, Battlefront 2 endured a controversial launch, largely due to its use of loot boxes and microtransactions. Although the game eventually recovered, EA never followed it up with another entry.

Now, it appears Lucasfilm could be exploring the possibility of bringing the series back, potentially with a completely different developer.

Bungie could develop Star Wars Battlefront 3 instead of DICE

According to the Quartermann column in the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which was picked up on Jeff Grubb's Game Mess Mornings podcast, Lucasfilm is actively searching for a studio willing to take on Battlefront 3.

"The suits at Lucasfilm have been aggressively deploying probe droids for a development partner to take on the task of creating a follow-up," the column claims.

However, it goes on to explain that no studio has committed to the project just yet, despite two major developers reportedly expressing interest.

"So far, no one has fully stepped up, but yours truly is hearing two major game studios are circling the project like a couple of snowspeeders," the report continues, identifying EA DICE as one possibility.

"If the Force is not entrusted to DICE, it could land at none other than Halo, Destiny, and Marathon developer Bungie," the column continues.

Bungie's involvement would represent a significant change for Battlefront, and for the developer itself. The studio continues to work on Marathon, while they also confirmed that they're not done with Destiny, despite previously announcing that Destiny 2 would receive no more major updates.

For now, the claims remain unconfirmed. Neither developer has been announced as the studio behind Battlefront 3, and the report suggests Lucasfilm has yet to secure a dev.
